SHORT NEWS: 10/20/05
OCTOBER 20, 2005 --
Adidas has finally issued a statement regarding all the bad press it's getting over the refusal of an Arkansas State guard to wear its shoes. "Adidas has produced outstanding quality basketball equipment for all athletes from the local park courts to the NBA, with every piece made to help athletes to play at their very best," the company said in a statement. "In regards to the situation at Arkansas State University, we are taking the matter very seriously and are currently looking for the best way to handle the situation that is both positive and supportive for the University and its athletes." It was also revealed that no ASU athletic administrators or coaches get any money from the school's contract with Adidas, which centers around free product.
Everlast received the annual Vendor MVP Award from Modell's Sporting Goods. Bob Stevenish, president, Modell's, said, "We are honored to present this MVP Vendor Award to our strategic partner, Everlast Worldwide. Everlast was chosen as a result of their performance as one of Modell's top strategic partners. We are very pleased to have Everlast as one of Modell's largest vendors. Our sports fitness business at Modell's is growing tremendously, and we expect Everlast to remain an important element of that success."
Indiana officials met with representatives of Bass Pro Shops, following reports last week the sporting goods retailer is eyeing Portage, IN, as a possible branch site.
Academy Sports & Outdoors is about to open a 74,000-square-foot store in Macon, GA. This will be its first store in the state and will not be far from a planned Bass Pro Shops store and DC.
