WWSRA Launches Preview Show Series Across Western US

OCTOBER 12, 2005 -- The Western Winter Sports Representatives Association introduced four new regional preview shows in '06. These shows will be launched in Boulder, Newport Beach, Portland and Sacramento. After a series of surveys, membership meetings and focus groups, the board came to the conclusion that these shows have become a vital part of the show cycle and provide a valuable opportunity for retailers, reps and companies.

The previews will provide retailers with the tools and insight to make the most effective use of their time and money at the national shows. John Chapman, owner and buyer for Porters Sports commented, "With many vendors, especially on the softgoods side of the business, wanting orders earlier and offering discounts and extra incentives, a preview show is a necessity. It will help me make wise product decisions and be more profitable in the end."

Terry Campion, Santa Cruz Snowboards and 686 rep, said, "A preview show is great for my accounts and the companies I represent. My buyers are able to determine their buy before Vegas, taking advantage of maximum discounts and the companies I represent get a much better indication of how to place early factory orders. It will ultimately lead to my orders getting to the stores on time."

Fiorini Sports buyer Julie Vill's response was: "The preview show is great because I can make brand decisions before SIA. That will enable me to use my time in Vegas to merchandise and color my apparel lines as well as see new upcoming trends and brands." he early shows also offer retailers the opportunity to review the many lifestyle categories that cross over to different seasons.

Dave Fitgerald, an outdoor rep in the Northwest, reported that his retailers were very excited about the new January show, "The new WWSRA preview show in Portland, finally puts a show at the right time. Retailers can come to a venue in a vibrant city, and take advantage of early write programs regardless of whether they are able to attend SIA or Outdoor Retailer."

Barry Zamzow, the Atomic Alpine rep for the Northwest, said, "Our retailers will get a glimpse of what's new before SIA and OR so our appointments at those big shows can be more focused on their buy. Ultimately, the preview show will allow me and my dealers to utilize our valuable time in the most effective and concentrated way."
