FEBRUARY 03, 2006 -- It didn't trake long, but Adidas will be replacing Reebok as the sponsor of the Liverpool soccer club in the UK. Adidas said its acquisition of Reebok had nothing to do with the switch.

Reuben AKA “Big Rube” Harley, Vice President of Marketing for Mitchell & Ness, has announced his resignation as of February 1. Harley began his tenure at the company in April 2001. Mitchell & Ness says Harley brought marketing innovation, product development, and grass roots product placement to the firm that had previously been a rather unknown maker of historically accurate sports uniforms. Harley has decided to pursue his dream of his own streetwear company ‘R Harley Collection.’ Inquiries regards Reuben’s new brand should be directed to [email protected].

Larry Domingo has been promoted to VP/commercial sales, leading Precor's network of 43 sales representatives that work with fitness facility decisionmakers and Precor's extensive dealer network. Domingo previously was commercial sales director.In addition, Domingo has promoted Dan Toigo and Sean Kearney to regional sales director positions, and Chuck Fedorka to director of national accounts. Each previously was a regional manager with Precor.

Eastern Mountain Sports announced the appointment of Jeffrey Neville to Chief Information Officer. He was an Associate Partner with IBM's business consulting services division. He was most recently the global distribution sector lead for IBM's Institute for Business Value. EMS said Neville will be responsible for integrating strategy, process and systems to deliver a seamless and satisfying customer experience. His role will also include responsibility for ems.com.

Sport-Haley said it has regained compliance with the registration requirement for continued listing on the Nasdaq National Market. On December 28, Sport-Haley, Inc. notified Nasdaq that the Company had recently become aware that its common shares were not properly registered under §12(g) of the Securities Exchange Act of 1934, as amended (the "Exchange Act"), as the Company had believed, and therefore, the Company was not in compliance with NASD Marketplace Rule 4440(a), which requires an issue of securities to be registered under §12(g)(1) of the Exchange Act in order to be listed on the Nasdaq National Market.

Gold's Gym International has entered into a licensing agreement with Performance Edge Sports Nutrition LLC, a division of Futurebiotics, to manufacture and market a line of Gold's Gym-branded sports nutrition products for distribution in Gold's Gyms and retail outlets. The agreement includes protein bars, energy drinks, protein powder and other supplement products. The new line of Gold's Gym supplements will be available beginning fall 2006 and is the latest addition to a full line of Gold's Gym branded products. These include Gold's Gym home fitness equipment, men's and women's apparel, hosiery, sports bags and books.

Reebok is teaming up with the CMU apparel design program and the engineering program to give students an opportunity to design protective apparel for athletes. The students will be able to utilize CMU's body scanner and thermal camera to design the customized apparel. The body scanner, which is the only one of its kind in Michigan, measures 300,000 data points on the human body in a matter of seconds and creates a 3-D body image. The scanner can be used to design customized clothing.

“We're challenging you to come up with something crazy,” Senior Designer for Reebok Boris Esterkes. “Think about protective, breathable clothing, using the garment while playing sports as well as traveling, driving or something completely different. Go outside the box and think about it.”

Outdoor Sports World, a fixture for local outdoorsmen in West Palm Beach for 52 years, is closing this spring. Owner Howard Elkins, 87, told the Palm Beach Post that his health and a good offer were the reasons he decided to sell the store. An antique store will open in its place.
