European Outdoor Market Valued At $6.2 Billion

SEPTEMBER 15, 2005 -- Trade association European Outdoor Group has valued the European outdoor market at retail in '04 at EUR 5.104 billion ($6.2 billion). The most important sub-category is apparel, which is estimated at EUR 1.98 billion ($2.4 billion). The outdoor footwear market at retail was estimated at EUR 686 million ($837.8 million). In '04, UK outdoor sales were EUR 1.027 billion ($1.3 billion), a decline of 1%. The Benelux countries represented retail sales of EUR 256 million ($312.7 million), a decline of 2%. The Nordic market posted a 6% sales increase. Austria rose 7% to EUR 235 million ($287.0 million). Switzerland eked up 1% to EUR 330.4 million ($403.5 million. Italy rose 4% to EUR 281.2 million ($343.4 million), as did Spain to EUR 87.9 million ($107.4 million). (SOURCE: SAZ)
